Your Essential Guide

Our cars go through a lot during the winter months. We’re using them a lot more to avoid getting caught in bad weather, and that means that they are being battered by wind, rain, snow and whatever else the Great British weather has in store! This can result in your car paint looking dull and listless. How can you breathe new life into it again? Here is your guide to helping your car paint look its best during the winter.

Keep it clean

First of all, you need to keep your car clean. We know that it’s a lot easier to head outside and wash your car during the summer months, but there’s plenty of evidence that it needs it just as much during the winter, if not more. Winter grime and dirt can have a serious impact on your car’s paint, so the sooner you rinse all of that off, the better.

Ideally, you’ll want to wash your car on a dry, overcast day so that it can dry without going streaky, but we know that the weather often doesn’t play ball at this time of year! So all you can do is do your best to keep on top of cleaning it whenever you can.

Polish

Once your car is nice and clean, you can start to make the paintwork look a lot brighter with a good polish. A lot of people confuse polishes with waxes, but they are actually gently abrasive. Don’t be scared by this! The slight abrasive quality of a good polish will help to buff away many imperfections, some that you may have thought you would never be able to get rid of! It’s important to find a polish that is suitable for your car paint. So don’t be afraid to ask questions when you buy.

Wax

After polishing comes waxing! This is what is going to give your car that beautiful showroom sheen that really makes the colour of the paint look so much more vibrant. Did you know that wax will protect your car’s paint, too? It acts as a barrier between the surface of the paint and things like mud and rain. So by rolling your sleeves up and applying a high-quality wax, you can make your paint last longer!

Store it well

The easiest way to protect your car from the elements this winter is to keep it away from them as much as possible. Ideally, you’ll want to park it in a garage, but this isn’t possible for every car owner. If you don’t have a garage, then even parking it in a shaded spot or investing in a car cover will really help.

You’re ready for winter!

Now you know how to keep your car paint looking as good as possible this winter, there’s no reason to let it deteriorate. By following even a couple of the above pieces of advice, you’ll have a car that will be the envy of all your friends!
